The well-known infomercial on Ginsu cutlery features the knives slicing through everything from tomatoes to tin cans to radiator hoses. If youre outfitting a kitchen in, say, a fraternity house or a bachelor pad, where knives could be used in that manner, or tend to overlook knife maintenance requirements, Ginsu knives are a fitting and affordable choice.

The 24 pieces in this set include a healthy grouping of knives along with some extras thrown in (just like in the infomercial)--a set of nylon serving utensils and measuring spoons. The cutlery includes: an 8-inch chefs knife, a 5-inch utility knife, a 5-inch boning knife, a 7-1/2-inch carving knife, a 3-inch paring knife, a 4-1/2-inch fruit/vegetable knife, a 3-inch eagle beak paring knife, a 4-1/2-inch specialty knife, and four 4-1/2-inch steak knives. The five nylon serving utensils are comprised of a ladle, a solid spoon, a slotted spoon, a pasta rake, and a turner. Rounding up the set are an apple peeler/corer and a set of five measuring spoons ranging in size from one tablespoon down to "just a pinch." A solid wood storage block contains all the cutlery while other accessories will need some space in a storage drawer.

Ginsus stainless-steel blades are stamped by machine and have a double-serrated edge that stays sharp for a lifetime of cutting through the usual kitchen fare--and the occasional non-edible object--without ever requiring sharpening. Blades are permanently bonded to polypropylene handles, which are textured to provide a non-slip grip. The handle material is heat-resistant so all knives can safely be cleaned in the dishwasher.
