If you've still got your knives banging around in the kitchen drawers, it may be time to buy a block set. Storing knives in an oak block like the one included in this LamsonSharp set is convenient, plus it protects knife blades and keeps them from damaging other knives. This block set contains all the essentials: a 3-1/2-inch parer for small tasks, an 8-inch chef's knife for bigger jobs, an 8-inch carver for slicing, and a 6-inch boning knife to cut the leftovers away from the carcass.

After the feast is finished, use the 10-inch butcher's steel to re-hone each blade: simply draw the knife blade lightly along the steel at a 20-degree angle. All the knives in this set are hand-forged high-carbon stainless steel (which means they are very sturdy) and honed by hand for a razor-sharp edge.
